Re-Define Yourself

For those living in or near Louisville KY, ultrasound-assisted liposuction can help you finally achieve the trim figure that diet and exercise have failed to deliver. As with the other liposuction techniques we employ here at Blue Halo Med Spa, ultrasound-assisted liposuction can permanently remove unwanted fat cells from targeted areas, allowing Dr. Roberto Penne-Casanova, M.D. to sculpt your body to an ideal contour. This particular technique is especially useful for areas of the body with more fibrous tissue. To find out if this procedure is right for you, contact us to schedule your consultation today.

The Ultrasound-Assisted
Liposuction Procedure

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction is so called because it employs a specialized cannula that emits ultrasound waves to break up the fat. The cannula is the hollow metal tube used to suction the fat out once it has been broken up. With traditional liposuction, the surgeon must manually break the fat up with the cannula. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction utilizes sound waves to emulsify the fat, destroying the cell walls so that the fat liquefies. It can then be easily removed using the cannula.

Ultrasound-assisted liposuction is not appropriate for every body sculpting procedure. It is most often recommended for those who want stubborn fat removed from the upper back or male breast areas. Dr. Roberto Penne-Casanova, M.D. can help determine whether this procedure is right for you.

Recovery From Power
Assisted Liposuction

Recovery after this procedure is similar to other forms of liposuction. Although you should notice results immediately, it takes up to six months before the swelling completely subsides and your final look settles. Dr. Roberto Penne-Casanova, can advise you throughout the recovery process and let you know when you can resume certain activities, although most patients can perform non-strenuous tasks within a week.

ONE-OF-A-KIND PRECISION BODY SCULPTING

Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction

Ultrasound energy for minimally invasive aesthetic body contouring that yields
dramatic results with less pain and downtime than traditional liposuction.

Minimally Invasive
Body Contouring

An alternative to the harsh techniques of traditional liposuction, Ultrasound Lipo is minimally invasive yet powerful enough to eliminate large areas of fat and gentle enough to treat more delicate areas.

Immediate and
Precise Sculpting

Ultrasound Lipo removes visible amounts of fat immediately. Its a step-up from non-invasive procedures that rely on secondary reactions to reduce small amounts of fat over an extended time.

Treat Multiple Areas in a
Single Procedure

Ultrasound Lipo can sculpt and shape multiple areas in a single procedure, including: jowls, chin and neck, abs, hips or love handles, male and female breasts, arms, back, buttocks or thighs, knees, calves or ankles.

ULTRA-SOUND LIPOSUCTION

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty?

Ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL) is a method of liposuction that is similar to traditional liposuction techniques in that fatty tissue is removed from the body through small (less than one centimeter) incisions for the purpose of improving body contour. However, with UAL the fat is first fractionated by the application of ultrasonic energy. The ultrasonic energy is delivered to the fat via a long narrow probe which is inserted through the same small incisions used for traditional liposuction. The ultrasonic energy targets the fat cells, leaving the surrounding structures, such as blood vessels and connective tissues, apparently undamaged. The fractionated fat can then be removed using low-volume suction.

What are the advantages of UAL?

UAL is found to generally decrease post-operative swelling and bruising over traditional liposuction techniques. Some physicians believe UAL allows better control of contour or shape of the body in the areas treated with liposuction and early experience has shown minimal problems with post-operative contour irregularity. It allows relatively large volumes of fat removal per operation with relatively little blood loss and minimal post-operative bruising. UAL is also physically less demanding from a surgical standpoint making the Dr. less fatigued when performing the treatment which will equate to better control of results for the patient.

Are there any possible complications associated with UAL?

As with any surgical procedure there are possible risks and complications. The risks and possible complications of UAL are essentially the same as with traditional liposuction techniques. Bleeding and infection are very rare with either technique (a good estimate would be less than 1% of cases have either of these problems.) Contour irregularity (or unevenness of the body contour) is possible with either technique. With any large amount of liposuction, there is the possibility of accumulation of fluid in an area which was suctioned. This is called a seroma and is easily treated by drawing off the fluid in an office setting. A full list of risks associated with the procedure will be explained during your consultation. The risk of burning or scaring of the skin is a possibility. In general, UAL is a safe and has less overall a risk than traditional liposuction.

What kind of anesthesia is used for UAL?

The patient is numbed with lidocaine and an internal tumescent mixture that includes lidocaine and epinephrine during the procedure. Additional pain medication and sedatives are provided to help the patient relax and prevent pain. A safe mixture of 50% Nitrous Oxide and 50% Oxygen called Pro-Nox is provided to patients which is great for any painful aesthetic treatment.

How much does this procedure cost?

The cost varies based on size of area being treated and if the fat is being transferred to another area. Consults are provided complimentary. Without fat transfer the cost ranges between $3,500 and $7,700. This could be less or more depending on your specific needs and goals.

What can I expect during the post-operative period?

The answer to this question depends largely on what areas and how much fat you have suctioned. In general, the more aggressive the removal and the more areas you have suctioned, the “stricter” the post-operative regimen. In general, you can expect some discomfort during the first week or so. Most people describe it as discomfort rather than actual pain. Many say it feels like a deep bruise. The skin over the areas suctioned is often numb for a variable length of time. You will be required to wear some kind of post-operative compression garment such as a girdle or an abdominal binder. This is used to compress the tissues to lessen swelling and bleeding. You are generally requested to wear the garment between 2 weeks – 2 months.

Can I gain the weight back?

Yes, you can regain weight after any kind of liposuction. You have a set number of fat cells as an adult and liposuction simply removes a certain number of them. The ones removed are permanently gone. The remaining fat cells can grow bigger though if you gain weight. The good news is that there are fewer fat cells remaining in the area of the body that was treated and the “weight” tends to distribute itself more evenly in harmony with your new body contour. All in all, liposuction is not the answer to weight control, rather it is a surgical method of contouring the body. It is always best to be at a stable and realistic weight when you undergo this procedure.
